Chestermere homes and communities
A city built around Chestermere Lake, right on Calgary's eastern edge: lakefront homes, newer communities and a short drive into the city.
Chestermere grew up around Chestermere Lake, a summer cottage spot that became a city in 2015. Today it sits right on Calgary’s eastern edge, so many residents work in the city while living by the water.
What Chestermere is like
The lake is the centre of town life in summer, with boating, paddleboarding and lakeside parks. Around it are established communities like Westmere and The Cove, and newer ones such as Kinniburgh, Rainbow Falls, Dawson’s Landing and Chelsea that have grown quickly in recent years.
Homes you’ll find
- Detached homes, most of them newer, including large lakefront properties.
- Duplexes and townhouses in the newer communities.
- Lakefront and lake-access homes, which come at a premium.
Getting around
Highway 1 (the Trans-Canada) and Chestermere Boulevard lead straight into Calgary’s east side, and Stoney Trail is close by. Most people drive to work in the city.
Everyday life
The Chestermere Recreation Centre has arenas and fitness facilities, and there’s golf nearby. Calgary’s East Hills shopping centre is just to the west, and the Peter Lougheed Centre and other Calgary hospitals are a short drive. Public schools are run by Rocky View Schools, and Catholic schools by the Calgary Catholic School District.
