Okotoks homes and communities

A town on the Sheep River south of Calgary, with a historic downtown, river pathways and a lake community.

Okotoks sits on the Sheep River south of Calgary. Its name comes from the Blackfoot word for rock, after the Okotoks Erratic, the giant boulder west of town. It has grown into one of the largest towns in Alberta while keeping a walkable historic downtown.

What Okotoks is like

The original town grew along the Sheep River, and its historic downtown still has independent shops and restaurants. Around it, communities such as Westmount, Cimarron, Crystal Shores, Drake Landing and D’Arcy have added newer family homes. Crystal Shores has a residents’ lake, and Drake Landing is known for heating its homes with stored solar energy.

Homes you’ll find

  • Detached homes, the most common type.
  • Duplexes and townhouses in the newer communities.
  • Some condos near downtown and the main roads.
